Make Up Points

You have two options for making up points. The maximum amount of points that I will let you make up, is three per session.

Option 1 - Explore the missed assignment with Alex

This must be completed within 5 school days of the absence – no exceptions.
You missed 55 minutes of class, so make-up will take the same amount of time. You may make an appointment, on my calendar to come in and complete a similar assignment to the one you missed and then discuss what you have learned, (For Alex: 1st , 6th, or 8th periods). If you miss an appointment, you will complete option 2 for the missed point. Afternoon students should talk to me about a good time to make up points

Option 2 - Write a paper expressing a scientific explanation

You should base your claim on cause and effect. Use logic, and base your argument on evidence. It should be typed with 12 pt font (use an "academic" font) and double spaced. In an effort to be "greener," please turn this in through Google Docs on It should be a minimum of 400 words.

For example:

  • What is the effect of global climate change on the human refugee population?
  • What is the effect of global climate change on the pine beetle population in North America?
  • What is the effect of global climate change on the intensity of weather?
  • What is the effect of the “Western Diet” on health in the US?

Claim (1-2 paragraphs)
  • This is an introductory paragraph and contains the idea that you are trying to prove. In English class, you would call it a thesis statement

Evidence (2-3 paragraphs)
  • Studies that support your claim. You must state where you found your information (i.e. organization, scientist or college – not the website). Include data and analysis.

Reasoning (2 paragraphs)
  • Describe your ideas about why this subject is important
  • Explain your ideas on why your claim is true
  • Explain the logical conclusions that you reached based on the evidence

Conclusion (1 paragraph)

Sources (2 paragraphs)
  • Give a formal citation of each article used. Summarize at least 2 of the articles.
